Distribution and logistics insiders blog
The line between disorder and order lies in logistics. This is a quotation from Sun Tzu, the famous general who wrote The Art of War, a book which has become a business classic within the past couple of decades. I agree, one can't overestimate the value of logistics. Every company, big and small, is deeply involved with logistics, if you do it yourself, or hire someone to do this for you. Whatever business you're in, each company essentially does three things. You get some stuff and then turn it into a new and different solution, and you then sell this product to a client. In short, you source, make, and deliver, that are the fundamental purposes of supply chain management. Logistics allows you to get that stuff from the supplier to your factory, to handle your inventory during transportation and storage, and also to fulfill your customers' orders. But additionally, effectively handling product returns is becoming increasingly important now.

In just the last few decades, the term"logistics" has gotten remarkably common. Global companies such as DHL, UPS, and FedEx are known as logistics companies. But what exactly is logistics? I mean, is it only getting finished goods to a customer's home, or perhaps, to a store where these goods can be put on a shelf ready for purchase? Yeah, that's logistics, but it is only a little portion of what the world of logistics encircles. You see, logistics does not only happen in the past decade before a product gets to the hands of the consumer. Logistics occurs before a product is even made. Even in the simplest supply chains, raw material and parts are shipped to producers. Finished goods are sent to supply contraband from there, goods make their way to a retail shop or an online merchant's picking and packaging warehouse where, eventually, they may be sent to your house. All along the way, there are important choices to be made that can impact whether the shipment was quickly delivered, safely, on-time and in the right amount.
